In the 1970’s, Scollard Hall and St Joseph’s College came together for one weekend every year to put on the Joe-Scollard Winter Carnival. The main event was the Saturday night dance in the Scollard gym. This year, the theme was “The Beatles”. The two students in the photograph put in a lot of hard work to create and hang this large mural for the Saturday night dance.

This photograph attracted me on first viewing because of the graphic rendition of the iconic Beatles image painted in bright arresting colours. These bookend portraits are neatly bridged by the use of the ladder as an inverted V where two attractive set designers casually pose. An eye-catching image.
