Kennedy Farm

Kennedy FarmA.1.jpg

This photograph shows the Kennedy farm on Four Mile Lake Road.

Lewis Kennedy had established a farm on the property by 1921 (probably earlier). His major cash crop was pork, from pigs he raised and slaughtered on the farm.

During the Second World War his son, Oscar, took over the running of the farm while his two brothers went off to fight.*

Memories of… No Pets !
“When you live on a farm you learn that animals are there to work or provide meat. This is true even of “hobby” farms where I lived from 1953 to 1981.

We raised goats, a couple of pigs and lots of rabbits. I don’t quite know how we acquired Snoopy but he was the runt of the litter and hung around the back door, and soon he was kept in a box with a grate on top by the wood stove. He became toilet trained, and would jump on the bed to wake someone to let him out. The kids loved him and fed him apples as a treat. That rabbit eventually died of old age.”

— Rosemary Kennedy
