The First (Unofficial) Landing at the North Bay Airport

On July 2, 1938 when construction at the airport was nearing completion, North Bay residents Stan Chandler and Jack Richardson landed a De Havilland Gypsy Moth on the freshly bulldozed runway. They had departed from Montreal that afternoon and approached North Bay around 6:00pm. Stan Chandler became the first pilot to unofficially land an airplane at the North Bay airport. A model of the airplane they flew, G-CAVK, is on display.
