Over 17,000 Jewish men and women served in the Canadian Armed Forces in the Second World War. North Bay was no exception. Monty Weisman reached the rank of Major General, and later served as military attaché at the Canadian Embassy in Washington. In contrast, Private Solomon Green died just ten days before his 21st birthday, and is buried in Surrey, England. Sydney Brown (in the photo) was not the only casualty in his family. His brother Zave Brown was killed in Holland in 1945 while serving with the Royal Hamilton Light Infantry.
